Western Carolina University

Located in Cullowhee, North Carolina, Western Carolina University (WCU) is a public university enrolling over 10,000 full-time students from 48 United States and 35 foreign countries. WCU is a member institution of the University of North Carolina System, and is the fifth oldest institution in that system. Originally established to provide quality education to the people of the western North Carolina mountains, WCU's offerings now extend throughout the entire state and region.

WCU is organized into five undergraduate colleges, the Kimmel School, the Honors College, and the Graduate School. Several interdisciplinary programs are available. The university is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

WCU is one of the largest producer of teachers in the state of North Carolina, and its education programs are well respected. The university's College of Education and Allied Professions was the winner of the Association of Teacher Educators' Distinguished Program in Teacher Education Award, as well as the American Association of State Colleges and Universities' Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teacher Education Award.

For students who are unable to attend campus full-time, Western Carolina University offers the distance education and online degree programs. Online classes and courses are convenient and designed for working adults and busy career professionals. The university offers online undergraduate degrees, online graduate degrees, online certificates and courses, hybrid degree programs and alternative teacher licensure programs. Online areas of study include criminal justice, early childhood, emergency medicine, nursing, business law, entrepreneurship, engineering technology, construction management, project management and school administration.
