New Jersey Institute of Technology

The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public university in Newark, New Jersey. It is located about 20 minutes from New York City via the PATH rapid transit system and the Newark City Subway. NJIT enrolls more than 10,000 students, roughly 25% of whom live on campus.

There are 126 degree programs available through the New Jersey Institute of Technology. There are also several professional degrees available through the university's Honors College. These programs are offered in collaboration with other universities in the area. For example, students can enroll in an accelerated engineering & law degree (BS, JD) through NJIT and Seton Hall Law School, a medical program (M.D.) with New Jersey Medical School (Rutgers), or an optometry program (O.D.) through the Manhattan-based SUNY College of Optometry.

NJIT is one of the top ten most culturally diverse universities in the country, with a student population comprised of roughly 20% international students. There are 27 academic departments under the university's institutional umbrella. Three of these departments (History, Theatre Arts, and Sciences) are federated with the neighboring Rutgers-Newark.
