University of South Alabama

A population of more than a million people live within reach of the University of South Alabama, which is located Mobile. It is the only major public university in the upper Gulf Coast and offers a large variety of graduate and undergraduate areas of study for residence of Mobile and the surrounding regions. In addition to an expansive selection of undergraduate degrees, the university also offers masters and doctorate level graduate degree programs.

The university offers more than 50 bachelor’s and certificate programs , as well as 40 master’s degrees. The most popular fields of study include Business Administration, Audiology, Basic Medical Sciences, Nursing, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Marine Science, among others. Degrees are awarded through one of the university's ten academic colleges and schools, which includes two state-sponsored medical schools.

Enrollment for the University of South Alabama has reached almost 15,000 students a year. The school employs more than 5,500 workers and has an annual payroll of nearly $404 million. That makes South Alabama the second largest employer in the city of Mobile. The school continues to grow to meet the needs of its students and the communities it serves.

The university has a student-to-faculty ratio of 22 to 1 and 42% of classes have less than 20 students. A little over half of the student body is female and the university has a relatively high acceptance rate of 86%. University of South Alabama (USA) is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award undergraduate and graduate degrees. Credits earned at USA can be transferred to any other regionally accredited higher education institution, which include most major four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
