Shasta College

Shasta College has its campus in Redding, California, and handles the needs of more than 8,800 students. The school services traditional students as well as older enrollees and others who are continuing their education. A large number of transfer and pre-transfer type classes are offered in the areas of language arts, welding, nursing, physical education, social sciences and art, among others. While there are many commuter students, others attend Shasta College in order to eventually transfer to a four-year institution.

Many community colleges don’t have dorms, but Shasta College does, providing a complete college experience for students. The school also boasts a formidable athletic program for junior college competition.

Shasta College has earned a reputation as a destination for talented musicians, who are attracted to the school’s outstanding music department. There is study available in band, choir, piano, orchestra, music theory and guitar, and entertains with one of the largest community college bands – 100 members – in the country.

To meet the growing needs of students, Shasta College recently opened a new Health, Sciences and University Center at a downtown location in Redding. Other schools, including the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), CSU Chico and Southern Oregon University (SOU) utilize the Center as a subsidiary.

Shasta College offers many courses that can be completed online. Online courses at Shasta are designed for students who, for whatever reason, are not able to attend a full time, campus-based degree program. The college also offers hybrid courses which combine online study with on campus classes.
