Michigan Technological University

Located in Houghton, Michigan, Michigan Technological University (more often called Michigan Tech, MTU, or Tech) is a public research university offering over 130 degree programs across five colleges and schools. The university has expanded its educational offerings since its inception, and its name has changed three times to reflect this expansion. Now, in addition to its numerous engineering programs, MTU offer programs in science, forestry, business, and technology.

The Princeton Review includes Michigan Tech on its "Best in the Midwest" list of exceptional institutions. U.S. News & World Report ranked MTU's undergraduate program 115th in the United States, based on such factors as student selectivity, financial resources, and peer assessment.

Michigan Tech is organized into five schools and colleges. All together, the university offers over 130 programs of study, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in such disciplines as engineering, computing, technology, humanities, arts, natural and physical sciences, social sciences, environmental studies, and business and economics. MTU's College of Engineering offers environmental and mechanical engineering programs which rank in the top ten in the nation.

One of Michigan Tech's most lauded programs is its Enterprise program, which is designed to provide students with real-world engineering and design experiences. The Enterprise program challenges students to work on projects in environments which model engineering and design firms in the private sector. This gives the student an opportunity to acquire applicable work experience while still completing their degree. Enterprises include Husky Game Development, Nanotechnology Innovations, Boardsports Technologies, Wireless Communications Enterprises, Aerospace, and Blue Marble Security.

MTU enrolls over 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and employs more than 450 academic faculty.
