Database Management and Administration Degree

Database managers and administrators are responsible for developing and overseeing database systems designed to store large quantities of data. Additionally, since databases often contain sensitive information, database managers and administrators are typically responsible for coordinating security efforts and protecting against cyber attacks and unauthorized intrusions.

Entry-level database management and administration jobs can be obtained with a bachelor's degree in database administration, but many companies and organizations prefer to hire database managers with graduate degrees (which include specialized MBAs in database management). Professional certificate programs in Oracle, Cisco and other vendor specific databases are also available. Many schools now offer online database administration programs. Online degree programs are designed to offer professionals the flexibility they need to earn their degree while maintaining a busy work schedule.

Students enrolled in database management and administration programs are typically required to complete courses in programming languages, Internet technology, computer hardware technology, information systems, and network security. However, curriculum will vary from school to school.
