American Film Institute

The American Film Institute (AFI) offers numerous educational and culture programs and is comprised of leaders from many business and entertainment communities.

The AFI Conservatory is taught by master filmmakers. The AFI Catalog of Feature Films and AFI Archive is accessible free online, a written history of the first 100 years of feature films. The 100 Years Series is a movies and events reference list. The Lifetime Achievement Award has been given each year since 1973 and the AFI Silver Theater and Culture Center in Silver Springs, Maryland is a place where film buffs can enjoy first run or classic movies. In addition, the AFI offers film festivals in Los Angeles and Silver Springs. An e-magazine called “American Film” keeps film lovers up-to-date on new offerings as well as classic movies.

AFI alumni includes such distinguished directors as Todd Cheriniawsky (Oz the Great and Powerful, Avatar), Janusz Kaminski (Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln) and Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line.
